John Haywood Barreto is a U.S. Army Veteran whose last known location was Miami, Florida in January of 1977. While John Barreto was in the Army, he experimented with LSD, a hallucinogenic drug. The use of LSD caused mental problems and after John Barreto was discharged from the Army, his mental problems would cause John Barreto to travel aimlessly in the warmer weather. John Barreto was receiving disability payments which were deposited into an account which his mother had access to. John Barreto would call his mother who lived in Lake Oswego, Oregon, when he needed money and she would wire the money to him. The last call she received to wire money to John Barreto was when he was in Miami, Florida around January 20, 1977. John Haywood Barreto has not been seen or heard from since.
John Haywood Barreto was 36 years old when he went missing in 1977. John Barreto is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighed approximately 160 pounds. John Barreto has brown hair and is known to shave his head, wear a crew cut or let his hair grow long. John Barreto had reddish color facial hair and would sometimes wear a full beard. John Barreto has clear bright blue eyes. John Barreto had some scarring to include a scar on the left side of his chest, a scar down his right arm and a scar on his abdomen. John Barreto was known to often wear solid color shirts and blue jeans with no belt. He was also often seen wearing loafer-style shoes as shown in the image gallery below. John Barreto’s preferred method of travel was by bus and he would often use the Trailways or Greyhound bus services.
