Robert Ernest Spurlock is a U.S. Army Soldier who was stationed at Wheeler Army Airfield in Schofield, Hawaii when he went missing December 2, 1981 a few days after a placing a call to his mother. Robert Spurlock had made a call to his mother’s house and his stepfather answered the phone. Seemingly upset, Robert Spurlock asked to speak with his mother at which time he was reprimanded by his stepfather and told to speak with the Army chaplains if he was having personal problems. Robert Spurlock never got to speak with his mother.
Robert Spurlock was last seen carrying a camera at 6:30 AM on December 2, 1981. On December 3, 1981, Robert Spurlock’s Captain contacted Robert Spurlock’s mother and informed her that Robert Spurlock had disappeared from his quarters and was considered Absent Without Leave (AWOL). The Captain initially told his mother that Robert Spurlock had taken his personal belongings with him, but that was later found to be untrue and the personal belongings were located in his quarters.
At around 8PM on December 3, 1981, Robert Spurlock’s mother was informed that her son may have been seen with a group of Hare Krishna devotees, dressed in the devotional dress of the Hare Krishna followers. After 1981, Robert Spurlock’s mother remarried and her name changed, which she feels may have hampered efforts by Robert Spurlock to contact her.
Robert Spurlock was 19 when he went missing in 1981. Robert Spurlock is described as quiet, introverted and religious. Robert is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighed approximately 129 pounds at the time he went missing. Robert’s hair color is blonde/strawberry and he has blue eyes. Robert Spurlock also has freckles on his face and arms. At the time of his disappearance, Robert Spurlock was believed to be wearing a brown checkered button up shirt and blue jeans with Nike brand athletic shoes. He was also carrying a camera. Robert Spurlock’s mother believes that he may be living in Hawaii or California.
