Jacob Cabinaw is a U.S. Army National Guard Soldier who went missing in the evening of March 31, 2010 after he dropped a friend off in downtown Traverse City, Michigan after playing Frisbee golf. Jacob was last seen driving his silver in color 2002 Chevrolet Malibu with Michigan license plate BKQ 4107.
31 year old Jacob Cabinaw was not only active in the Army National Guard, but was also enrolled in college. A requirement for Jacob was to call an automated service once a month to confirm that he is still enrolled in college classes (This may have been part of the program where the National Guard is covering the costs of college with tuition assistance). At 1 AM on April 1st, hours after dropping off his friend, Jacob called the automated system to confirm he was still enrolled in college. A little while after making that call, Jacob bought gas in Mattawan, Michigan. Mattawan is about 200 miles south of Traverse City where he had dropped off his friend.
On april 2, 2010, Jacob Cabinaw was captured on a security camera purchasing gas in Sweetwater, Texas. Sweetwater Texas is about 1200 miles away from his last known stop in Mattawan, Michigan. It was at this point that the trail of Jacob Cabinaw ends and he has not been seen or heard from since. His vehicle, the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu has also not been recovered.
Jacob Cabinaw had a brother stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. Fort Hood is in Central Texas and is about 210 miles from Sweetwater, Texas. It is not known if he made contact with his brother or if his brother being stationed at Fort Hood was the reason for him to be travelling to Texas. During Jacob’s trip to Texas, he relied on his bank account’s overdraft to allow him to pay for purchases. He had insufficient funds in his account to pay for the purchases on the trip.
Jacob Cabinaw is the 7th of 10 sons in his family and his family states that he does not use drugs and it was unlike him to just leave. Jacob was previously married and left behind two sons when he went missing.
Jacob Cabinaw is 5 feet 9 inches tall to 6 feet 1 inch tall (per NamUs.gov) and weighed approximately 145 to 155 pounds at the time he went missing. Jacob has brown hair which he had cut in a “buzz cut” and he has brown eyes. Jacob was last seen wearing his work uniform which is a grey jacket with a “Dave’s Garage” printed on it with dark blue pants. Jacob was also wearing medium brown work boots.
