Robert “Bob” C. Ehlert

bob_ehlert_07Robert “Bob” C. Ehlert is a Vietnam Veteran who was last seen leaving the Shelter Bay Marina in Colon, Panama, on June 13, 2013.  After serving in the U.S. Military and then retiring from ADT Security Systems, Robert, an accomplished sailor, became the Captain of the sailboat “Blue Rhapsody” which was anchored at the Shelter Bay Marina.  During his travels, Robert Ehlert found that Panama offered a fun place to live with like minded expats and locals.  Robert Ehlert decided that he wanted to live in a condo in Panama City, Panama and would even drive the two hours to the Marina where his boat was docked.  He wanted to be fully immersed in Panamanian culture and be a part of the local community.

Two friends staying with Robert Ehlert at his condo found a note that said he had gone away for two weeks with a friend named “Diane” to look at some potential real estate in a collection of islands in the Panamanian Province of Bocas del Toro.  About two weeks later, when Robert Ehlert did not return as expected, the friends grew concerned.  They reached out to his family in the United States who quickly determined that the note was not written in Robert Ehlert’s handwriting.  His sailboat, the Blue Rhapsody was also found to still be at the Marina and his vehicle was still missing. Family of Robert Ehlert spent about a week on the phone and computer searching for information and working with authorities.  They then flew down to Panama to search for Robert Ehlert.

The US embassy, State Dept, FBI, and various other investigators have all been involved in the search for Robert “Bob” C. Ehlert.  Although Robert Ehlert has not been located, he has since been declared deceased by the U.S. Government.
