Updated March 13, 2015: Dan Nerstrom’s mother announced on March 13, 2015 that the body of Daniel Nerstrom has been found and she thanks everyone for caring about Daniel and her family. An article by the Daily Herald also covers Dan Nerstrom. RIP Dan.
Dan Nerstrom was 30 years old, 6’1″ 200lbs when he was last seen on December 01, 2014 leaving his home in Libertyville, Illinois. Dan was in the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment with the US Army and was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO. He was in Iraq from Feb. 2005 – Feb 2006 as a Scout with 3 ACR. He was medically retired after injuring his back and being diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury, and PTSD. He is extremely smart and highly trained to survive outdoors, despite the cold weather. That being said, we have reason to believe that he’s okay and still with us.
He was last seen with two jackets on- a forest green carhartt fleece jacket with black wooly fleece on the inside, and a black carhartt jacket with patches on both shoulders. I’m not sure which one would be the top layer. He has a camo beanie hat with a red spider on the front (most likely has his hood up over the hat, but you can still see the beanie peaking out), blue jeans, tan military style boots. Most likely with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth, and an unshaven face. He left our home on foot, as his truck is still in the driveway. It is believed he may have brought a decent amount of cash. He turned his cell phone off immediately after I initially called him, but that cell tower was still so close to home. No activity in his bank account. Please, if you see him call right away and call Libertyville Police Dept at 847-362-8310
