Updated June 2, 2015: The search for Kenneth Reissig has ended. Authorities have identified a body located May 28, 2015 as that of Kenneth Reissig. Rest in Peace Sir.
Kenneth Reissig is a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran who was last seen near FM 32 and RM 473 in Blanco County, Texas on or about the 23rd or 24th of May, 2015. Kenneth Reissig was heading back home from a wedding with his stepson in a vehicle when heavy storms and flooding in Texas caused their vehicle to be overcome with water. Kenneth Reissig and his stepson exited the vehicle and held onto a tree for more than 2 hours to try to survive. A granddaughter of Kenneth Reissig recalled what happened after the two exited the vehicle in a news article dated May 29, 2015 by KVUE:
“My grandfather’s 6’7” [tall]. He’s a big, big gentleman,” Keller said. “[His stepson] pulled him back out of water and said ‘you need to hold on to the tree, dad.’ He said ‘I can’t hold on anymore, the water’s just too heavy, it’s taking me down.'” Keller said the stepson told Reissig to hold on until they get help but Reissig said, “You need to let me go.” “And he did,” Keller said. “He let him go.”
During Memorial Day Weekend 2015, the Blanco River reached record levels late Saturday the 23rd of May into the morning of Sunday, the 24th of May. This record level caused major flooding in the Hays County, Texas area and at least 11 people went missing, some of whom have been recovered.
Kenneth Reissig is 81 years old as of the time he went missing in May, 2015 (DOB 03/14/1934). Kenneth has white hair and blue eyes and stands 6 feet 7 inches tall.
