Updated July 16, 2015: The search for William Graham has ended. The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Aspen Fire Department, recovered the body of Army Veteran William Graham. RIP Mr Graham.
William Graham is a U.S. Army Veteran who was last seen Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the City Market in Aspen, Colorado . William Graham’s vehicle was later found by police in the Grottos parking area on Independence Pass near the Devil’s Punchbowl. The Devil’s Punchbowl is a popular cliff diving spot and location for swimmers (see image below). William Graham was being sought by authorities after they received a call that he was possibly drinking and driving after an employee at City Market in Aspen where William had just left said that he smelled like alcohol. Authorities were unable to locate William Graham, but did locate his vehicle along with some of his clothes and his wallet which were on the ledge of a rock. Authorities believe he leapt to his death in the Devil’s Punchbowl east of Aspen. Sheriff Joe DiSalvo said “At this point, anything is speculation,” the sheriff also said. “There’s no evidence of foul play, and there’s no evidence that this was intentional. Obviously jumping in was intentional, and from all indications this looks like a tragedy.”
A 5 person swift water rescue team was sent to search the river and the banks, but they were unable to locate William Graham. After an extensive search for William Graham was conducted to include searching downriver of the Devil’s Punchbowl, the search was called off unless new information is recovered according to the Pitkin County Sheriffs Department.
William Graham is 31 years old as of the time he went missing in 2o15.
